'Funtastic Food' is the educational tool within Host's diversity-led Food Nation healthy eating programme.

The basic directives of Food Nation are; i) to provide fresh food at all times where practical, with a major targeted reduction on processed foods, ii) employ skilled production personnel who are trained in the company's healthy eating 'ten top tips' scheme so that all food is produced in line with these standards, iii) to view each school as a unique community where focus groups are established to speak for the community to set the standards of healthy eating required, and iv) introduce and develop 'Funtastic Food' as an educational tool to develop an early understanding of healthy eating.

'Funtastic' seeks to promote the healthy eating tips and basic guidelines through the ‘Funtastic Food Gang’ – Kit, Kat, Mat, Nat and Jet illustrate various types of nutrients, food groups and healthy eating standards to children from 3 to 13 whilst they are eating their lunch, so parents can see what the school, partnered by Host, are doing to educate their children in this important subject.

The school is also asked to gather working groups of pupils and teachers together and establish a number of special theme days (perhaps once a month) in the annual school calendar. Each would then be associated with school or national/international events, as long as they relate to healthy eating, and are fun!
Host catering personnel will work with the groups as the food advisor, and special events will be staged in the school's dining room for the entertainment and educational benefit of the rest of the school, with parents attending if the school wishes to invite them.

The children become involved and learn about healthy eating by preparing posters, information leaflets and any other props for the day, while the Host team creates the menu choices, producing the food for the event.
